A Poem
by Ned

You entered
Quick and smooth
Into this world -
Enthusiastic
Burst of energy
Twisting, lively,
Rising into light.
Little Fatty -
Unknown prize
A hidden present
Under wraps
Until that day.
Then in a moment
All revealed,
A new person
Entering that room,
Blooming pink
And mewing softly
The first of many songs.

You entertained us graciously,
Unaffectedly accepted our admiration,
Then, like a worker
Tired from a job well done,
You slept.
I lay close to you then
With the gentle
Rhythm of your breath
Your sweet flower scent,
And in your sleeping face
I saw the promise
That you have always kept.
